Research Area A Development of Citizenship (A11)

This project culminated in a conference in Athens in December 2009.

Research Area A organized a conference in Athens from December 7 to 11, 2009. As Athens is one of the birthplaces of the concept of "the citizen", the conference was supposed to study “The Development of Citizenship in a Transcultural Context” by focusing on methods and particularly on the concept of transculturality and discussing culturally different concepts of citizenship. Participants were mainly members of Research Area A but include also some external specialists. They were all allocated in advance to the following workgroups to prepare their topics: "Citizenship" and "Methods and Concepts of Transculturality".
